Woody Allen accusations
Thierry Frémaux (Cannes Film Festival 2023 director) said in April 2023 that the film wouldn't be included in the festival program because of the controversy surrounding Woody Allen concerning the allegations he molested his stepdaughter Dylan Farrow in year 1992 would overshadow the film and festival.
50th movie
In 2022, Woody Allen told Alec Baldwin in.a Instagram Live that his 50th movie (previously said that it would be a drama similar to 'Match Point' 2005), would probably be his last production.

In statement by Woody Allen in February 2023, he said: 'Coup de Chance' is a contemporary story of romance, passion and violence set in contemporary Paris. Shot all over the city and a little bit in the countryside, it evolves around a romance between two young people who are old friends and devolves into marital infidelity and ultimately crime. It stars very gifted French actors and actresses, is all in the French language and looks very beautiful as photographed by the great cinematographer, Vittorio Storaro. The rest I'll leave to surprise."

Woody Allen tried to shoot this film in Paris in summer 2020 but was prevented from doing that because of the Covid pandemic.
In words of the photography director
In the early stages of production, the director of photography Vittorio Storaro said in an interview: "I would not compare it to Match Point (2005). The script does a masterful job at mixing drama and comedy, each time calibrating them in very different ways. I can say that it takes place in the present, there will be laughter, but also dark chills."
Crime and punishment... with romance
When the film was coming to an end, Woody Allen stated in an interview: "I can only tell you that this is a crime film, a serious story of crime and punishment. With a dose of romance, of course."
