Plot
The life of Marnie Sunshine the house cat couldn't be more mundane. Her owner, the dedicated cat-lady Rosalind, coddles Marnie (Alexander Neldel, 'The Treasure Knights and the Secret of Melusina', 'Berlin, Berlin') and refuses to let her outside to roam their hometown of Drabville, with the only adventure that Marnie even gets close to witnessing being those that she watches on the daytime detective shows that have her hooked. The naïve Marnie, however, doesn't realise that these detective shows are fake and so when a gang of criminals arrives in town, amongst them Rosalind's cousin Paul, a cunning art thief masquerading as a wheelchair-bound relative in need of a place to stay, she is convinced that she has the investigatory know-how to bring them to justice.
Along with an anxious guard-dog, Elvis (Axel Prahl, 'Scene of the Crime', 'Willenbrock'), a donkey masquerading as a zebra named Anton (Erik Borner, 'Stille', 'A Case for Two') and a yogi rooster named Eggbert, Marnie sets out to expose Paul and the rest of the robbers for who they are, crime show style.
'Spy Cat' is an animated family adventure film directed by Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein ('Balance', 'Luis and the Aliens', 'Songlines', 'Alphaville: Middle of the Riddle').
