'Sorry We Missed You' trivia and fun facts

How the idea arise?

When Paul Laverty and Ken Loach went to food banks to get some information for 'I, Daniel Blake', they discovered that many people who went to get some food had a job - partial time and contracts which didn't specify a minimum timetable. It's a new type of exploitation. The economy called "gig economy". Little by little they thought that maybe was a good idea to do another film.

How did they document?

They were helped by a man who directed warehouse next to the place they were filming. He indicated how the decorate must be. Every driver in the film work or used to work as delivery couriers. When they filmed their scenes, they knew what it was about. They knew the process, how it works and the pressure they were subdued to deliver on time.

The actos didn't know the end

The actors didn't know how the film would end and each scene was something new for them. Besides, they rehearse the family scenes to create a relationship between them.

The main actor

The actor who performance as Ricky used to work as a plumber for the last twenty years. He noticed they were looking for someone from Manchester or Bolton, and he raised up in Manchester and lives in Bolton. When they called him to tell him he was chosen as Ricky , he just get paid for install some boilers. They probably were the last boilers of his life.

Veteran at Cannes

'Sorry we missed you' was presented at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival in which it was Ken Loach's fourteenth participation in the French pageant, where it has obtained a total of two Palme d'Or.

Based on real events

The story takes partial inspiration from the experiences of Don Lane, a courier for DPD who died January 2018 after working through illness in the Christmas delivery rush. He had skipped several hospital appointments to treat his type 1 diabetes because he had been charged £150 by DPD when he missed deliveries to attend an appointment and feared further charges.
