'Sonic the Hedgehog' trivia and fun facts
Not the first time
This is the 2nd Sonic the Hedgehog Project created outside Japan where Sonic is not voiced by his original voice actor from the 1990s Cartoons Jaleel White, after the Cartoon Network series Sonic Boom (2014).
This sounds familiar
Ben Schwartz, the actor voicing Sonic in this film, was the voice of Leonardo in the series 'Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and the banana from 'The LEGO Movie 2'.
Paul Rudd
On May 29 2018, it was reported that Paul Rudd is in talks for a lead role as Tom, "a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to defeat Dr. Eggman." Paramount later clarified that this was not the case, but that Rudd had been considered for the role at one point.
Back to the oven
After the poor reception of the first images of Sonic amongst the fans James Fowler, director of the film, ended up announcing that the release date was to be released to February 2020 in order to "making this character the best he can be". The original release date was November 2019.
That's meta
The slogan "every hero has a genesis" used in the first marketing campaign of the film is a reference to the Genesis Sega video game console.
A lot of candidates
Chris Evans, Jake Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Bill Hader, Jason Segal, Justin Timberlake, Adam Pally, Ansel Elgort and Milo Ventimiglia were all considered for the role of Tom.
What did they do to my son?
The first Sonic redesign for the film caused Yuji Naka and Naoto Ahshima (Sonic Team director and designer of the original Sonic) to show their dissatisfaction with the adaptation proyect.
