'Son of the Mask' trivia and fun facts
Years before this sequel, plans for an earlier sequel to La máscara (1994), called "The Mask II", were in the works. Nintendo Power magazine even had a contest; first prize was a walk-on role in that movie. However, the project was canceled.
Jack Black turned down the role of Tim Avery.
The character name Tim Avery is a reference to the cartoonist Tex Avery.
The fictitious cartoons produced at Tim Avery's work place, Animagine, include "Siamese Popes", "The Bad Dolphins", "Cactus Jack", "Lincoln's Mites" and "Torpedo Tortoise".
Ben Stein is the only actor in this sequel who was also in La máscara (1994). He reprises his role as Dr. Arthur Neuman.
When the dad takes of the mask he doesn't give it Loki but in the next scene he has it on next scene the dad is holding it again.
The fictitious city featured in this film is "Fringe City." The city in the original La máscara (1994) film which is seen in the beginning of this sequel, is called "Edge City".
Two dogs were used in the film to play "Otis". They had their fur dyed in patches so that they matched on screen. The talented dogs were each taught different tricks.
