Sitting in Bars with Cake

'Sitting in Bars with Cake' is an American dramedy directed by Trish Sie for Amazon Prime Video. It is an adaptation of the cooking book of the same name written by Audrey Shulman, who also pens the script of the film and in whom the plot is based, inspired by a true story.

Jane and Corinne are two childhood friends who now live together in Los Angeles. Corinne, the extrovert, works, meanwhile Jane, introvert, is going to lawschool. Jane also loves baking. One day at a bar, Corinne finds a way for her friend to meet new guys and get a boyfriend once for all: they make a plan for Jane to bring cakes to 50 bars in order to meet new people and beat her shyness.

However everything changes when Corinne is diagnosed with a brain tumor, and has to begin treatment immediately. Corinne encourages Jane to keep baking cakes during her treatment, and Jane meets Owen, a man with whom she makes a connection. The idea is for Jane to keep getting confident to finally confront her parents and tell them she doesn't want to go to lawschool.

The story of Jane and Corinne is based on the real friendship of the author with her friend Chrissy, to whom the book and movie is dedicated. Chrissy was diagnosed in 2013 when Audrey was bringing cakes to bars.
