Plot
Mirza Delibasic was one of the great leaders of European basketball in the 1970s and early 1980s. He became a legend for his elegance at the helm of clubs such as Bosna Sarajevo, Real Madrid, and the legendary Yugoslavian national team. When the Bosnian war broke out in 1992, the sportsman found himself in a dramatic position regarding whether to leave or stay in the country. In the end, Delibasic voluntarily decided to stay with the Bosnian people rather than flee with his family, making him a national hero. Today, his son Danko tries to reconstruct the whole picture of the man behind the myth, which is captured in this documentary.
'Shooting for Mirza' is directed by filmmaker Juan Gautier, who wrote it together alongside Yayo Herrero, screenwriter of 'Maus' and the short films 'Picnic', winner of the Silver Biznaga for best short film at the 2011 Malaga Festival and 'Safari', for which he was nominated at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and the 2015 Goya Awards. It features the testimonies of Mirza Delibasic, Danko Delibasic, Dario Delibasic, Livia Delibasic, Slavica Delibasic, Mona Muratovic, Fernando Romay, and Lolo Saiz.
It is a co-production between Spain and Bosnia-Herzegovina, produced by Dynamite Films and Elamedia Estudios.
