Plot
This documentary tells us one of the least known stories in Italy throughout history. There is a little known story about the role of Italy during a crucial moment in Chilean history, specifically after the overthrow of the democratic government of Salvador Allende in September 1973. Intermingling archive images from the 70s with interviews recorded during 12 days in In 2017, the documentary reconstructs the role of the Italian embassy in Santiago de Chile in the months following the 1973 coup d'etat, in particular as asylum for hundreds of refugees opposed to the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, offering them the possibility to help them To leave the country. We can see in this way an important fragment of the history of the country that has affected how it is today.
This project is directed and written by Nanni Moretti, who has previously had other projects such as 'Habemus Papam' in 2011 or 'Mia Madre' in 2015, both Italian projects. The film won the award for best documentary at the David di Donatello Awards of the year 2018. However, despite the fact that the film tells part of the history of Italy, it is a co-production Italy-France-Chile, and the language of the film is Italian and Spanish.
