Preparing his role
Jacob Elordi read Evelyn Waugh's novel, 'Brideshead Revisited' as preparation for his role, which director Emerald Fennell had recommended to him as a way to get into character.
Change of nationality
Neither leads are English in real life. Jacob Elordi, who portrays the British aristocrat Felix Catton in this film, is Australian. Barry Keoghan (Oliver) is Irish.
Character change
Carey Mulligan said that the role Emerald Fennell originally offered her was not the one she ended up playing. Mulligan read the script and found she wanted to play a different character, and Fennell agreed to her request to play this other role instead.
Practicing the accent
Barry Keoghan spent a Belfast weekend with filmmaker Michael McNulty developing his Liverpool accent and drinking pints for 20 hours straight.
