Plot
Shola, also known as Rocks (Bukky Bakray), is a young teenage girl living in a council flat in London with her little brother Emmanuel (D'angelou Osei Kissiedu) and their single mother. When Rocks comes home one day to find that her mother has left, she is finds herself with no choice but to act as the sole provider and caretaker for herself and her little brother. Rocks is too insecure to share her struggles and fears with her school friends, many of whom have stable home lives and families, and the rifts between them only get worse when new girl Roshé (Shaneigha-Monik Greyson) turns up at school. Rocks feels isolated and afraid as her friends grow distant and she tries to keep herself and her brother hidden from social workers.
'Rocks' is a coming-of-age drama directed by Sarah Gavron ('Suffragette', 'Brick Lane', 'Village at the End of the World', 'Transparent') and written by Theresa Ikoko ('Girls', 'Snatches: Moments from Women's Lives') and Claire Wilson ('The Little Drummer Girl', 'Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime').
