Plot
'Robots' is a romantic sci-fi comedy written and directed by Ant Hines and Casper Christensen. It's based on the 1973 short "The Robot Who Looked Like Me" by Robert Sheckley. The movie had theatrical distribution in the United States thanks to an agreement with Neon, whereas on the rest of the world the film was directly premiered in streaming via Prime Video. It was released on May 19th, 2023.
The movie is set in 2032, when scientist are already able to develop robots with human appearance to take on jobs which people don't want to do. However, having a robot that looks like you is considered a crime. Charles Cameron is a womanizer and Elaine a gold digger that, despite all of this, use their double robots for their romantic dates.
However, their robots end up falling in love for each other, and decide to steal their owners identity and run away to live their romantic dream life. Meanwhile, the real Charles and Elaine have to team up to find the robots and get their lives back.
'Robots' was shot in New Mexico in August 2021, after being postponed because of the pandemic. British comic Jack Whitelhall and Shailene Woodley play the main roles, with Paul Rust, Nick Rutherford, Paul Jurewicz and David Grant Wright in the cast.
