Matthias returns to his hometown, a multi-ethnic town in Transylvania, a few days before Christmas after quiting his job in Germany. He is very worried about Rudi, his son, who has grown up without him, and Otto, his father, who was left alone. Matthias also wants to see Csilla, his ex-girlfriend, again. The man wants to get more involved in the boy's education, who has spent a lot of time in the care of his mother, Ana, and wants to help him overcome from his fears. When the factory that Csilla runs decides to hire foreign employees, the peace of this small town will be disturbed and the concerns will also affect the adults. Frustrations, conflicts and passions will surface again, breaking the apparent peace of the community.

Cristian Mungiu, one of today's most acclaimed European directors, directs and writes the film. His first feature film, 'Occident', participated in the Directors' Fortnight in 2002 and was a success in Romania. In 2007, his second film, '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days', was selected in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Palme d'Or for one of the most memorable European films of recent years. In 2012 and 2016 he participated again in the official section of the French Festival with 'Beyond the Hills' and 'Graduation', for which he won the Best Director Award.
