Plot
Based on a real story. An American security guard name Richard Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) saves thousands of lives when he raises the alarm after finding a bomb at the 1996 Olympics. Instead of being lauded as a hero, however, Jewell is vilified by the press as a potential terrorist. When he becomes the main suspect, Richard hires the lawyer Watson Bryant (Sam Rockwell) to defend him. Bryant believes the innocence of his client and is willing to face the FBI, GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) and the Atlanta Police Department to prove it.
'Richard Jewell' is a drama directed and produced by Clint Eastwood ('Mule', 'Sully', 'American Sniper', 'Gran Torino'). The script is written by Bill Ray ('Terminator: Dark Fate', 'Gemini Man', 'Overlord') based on 'American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell', a Vanity Fair article redacted by the investigative journalist Marie Brenner.
The film features Paul Walter Hauser ('Cobra Kai', 'I, Tonya', 'BlacKkKlansman') as Richard Jewell with great list of movie stars: Sam Rockwell ('Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri', 'Iron Man 2', 'Jojo Rabbit'), Jon Hamm ('Mad Men', 'Baby Driver', 'Good Omens'), Olivia Wilde ('House', 'Tron Legacy') and Kathy Bates ('American Horror Story', 'Feud', 'Midnight in Paris').

Trivia
Looking for a director
Originally, this movie was to be directed by Paul Greengrass, but he dropped out to do 'Jason Bourne'. David O. Russell was eventually approached for the project, but a deal never developed. It would be two years until April 2015, Clint Eastwood began to circle the project as his follow up to Sully (2016), but Eastwood chose another in-development project, The 15:17 to Paris, to helm instead. In December 2016, Ezra Edelman, an Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker signed on to helm the project for his first directorial narrative feature film, but dropped out in late 2018 after not getting it off the ground. In May 2019, Clint Eastwood signed back on to direct.
Producers instead of cast
Leonardo DiCaprio y Jonah Hill were eyed for roles in the movie. They couldn't at the end, but they still collaborate as producers.
The same place
Filming of the concerts and bombing scenes took place in the same location as the original incident site of Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park.
