Plot
We are in one of the last air bases of the French armed forces in the early 70's in Madagascar and there, the families of the military live the last traces of colonialism. In this environment, a 10 year old boy named Thomas, observes with anxious fascination all that surrounds him.
Strongly influenced by reading the novels, adventures and stories of the brave heroine 'Fantomette', Thomas is blinded by his innocence to the rapid change his world and society is undergoing.
'The Red Island' is directed by Robin Campillo ('Eastern Boys', '120 battements par minute', 'Entre les murs'), who also wrote the screenplay. The cast includes Nadia Tereszkiewicz ('Rosalie'), Quim Gutiérrez ('Burning Body'), Hugues Delamarlière ('When the Fever Comes'), Sophie Guillemin ('Sans toi'), David Serero ('Scarface: The Al Capone Musical Film') and Luna Carpiaux ('Un adieu').
The film is produced by Les Films de Pierre, Scope Pictures, France 3 Cinéma, DDC, Memento Films Production, SCOPE Invest, Playtime or Canal+ among a number of other production and partner companies, while the global distributor is Playtime and Memento Films in France, one of the film's producing countries. In Spain this film will be released in theaters on October 6, while in other places such as France, the film was released in May at premieres or film festivals.
