Lily Collins was offered the role of Elizabeth Bennet, but turned it down.

During the filming process here was a scene starring Lily James surrounded by heads of zombies, some from real extras and some fake designed to get squished at the time that James would walk on them. So in one of the shots she ended stepping on the head of one of the extras leaving everyone staring at her in shock.

Natalie Portman was originally cast as Elizabeth Bennet but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Mia Wasikowska, Rooney Mara, Mila Kunis and Blake Lively were considered to replace her before Lily James was finally cast. Portman remains on board as a producer.

After David O. Russell left the project, Mike Newell, David Slade, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Demme, Neil Marshall, Mike White, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller were all considered to direct before Burr Steers was chosen.

Matt Smith and Lena Headey have both appeared in entries in the Terminator franchise. Headey stars as Sarah Connor in Terminator: las crónicas de Sarah Connor (2008) and Smith plays Alex in Terminator Génesis (2015).

Matt Smith dated co-star, Lily James, during the film's production.

Bella Heathcote and Lily James, who play the two eldest Bennet sisters, both tested for the title role in Cenicienta (2015). The role went to James.
