Plot

'Prefiro condenarme' is a ninety-minute-documentary film directed by Margarita Ledo Andión ('Nación', 'Santa Liberdade', 'A cicatriz branca') and written by

Melania Cruz, Iria Pinheiro and Mónica Camaño. The plot presents the true story of Sagrario Fra Domínguez, a woman who is accused of adultery in 1972 for having a daughter with her lover, a carpenter.

The film travels into the thousand faces of Sagrario, seeking to understand what was her childhood like and what led her to trial through an introspection into the 1970s Spain. As the protagonist says, Franco's dictatorship discriminated women through these kind of absurd laws, and repressed them by not allowing them to express their sexual freedom or opinion in many different fields.

Because of it, 'Prefiro condenarme' uses archive images, home videos, statements and other materials to construct Sagrario's life. Born in 1939, the woman lived her entire life under the dictatorship, and although she tried to run away with her daughter to France, the regime forbad her do it. Almost fifty years after Franco's death, Sagrario shows how Spain has changed over the years. The documentary co-stars names such as Melania Cruz, Mónica Camaño or Iria Pinheiro.
