Wendy (Dakota Fanning) is a very independent and bright young woman with autism for whom the world is a confusing place. She longs to leave her foster home and return to live with her sister's family and her baby. Wendy is convinced that in order to return to them she must demonstrate her newfound skills, that is why, in her free time, she dedicates herself to writing.

One of her biggest passions is 'Star Trek' and when she finds out about a script contest of the saga, the young woman takes advantage to send her script of 500 pages, there is only one problem. She must presents the booklet in person, escaping from her foster home and traveling hundreds of kilometers outside the limits set for it. Although that will not stop her in her efforts to achieve her goals.
