Plot
Reynold Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) is a very powerful mal. As a fashion designer who dresses the royalty and the most famous and elegant ladies in London in 1950, Woodcock is a very successful man. But in order to accomplish his marvelous creations, a man needs his muses: an incredible number of women inspire him to pursue a brilliant professional career. Nonetheless, all of them are in his life only temporarily. At least, until a very special young girl arrives to his life: Alma (Vicky Krieps). With her innocent plainness, she quickly becomes the center of his attentions. That'll turn out to be very possitive at the beginning for both of them, but soon it will turn against Woodcock when he realizes he's falling in love with her and that feelings turn him into something he hates. Giving up control isn't in his nature or, at least, it wasn't until now.

Balenciaga
The director Paul Thomas Anderson acknowledged never having been interested in the world of fashion, until he learned the real story of the Spanish designer Balenciaga, on whom the film is indirectly based.
Favorite line
Paul Thomas Anderson has said that his favorite line in the film is, "The tea is going out but the distraction is staying right here with me." This line was written by Daniel DayLewis.
