Perfect Days

'Perfect Days' is the story of Hirayama, a man who is seemingly content with his life, a simple existence working as a toilet cleaner in the city of Tokyo. He has a fairly structured daily routine and outside of it, he greatly enjoys music, one of his passions, and books. He is passionate about gardening, specifically trees, and photographing them. He has a series of unexpected encounters that gradually reveal his past.

The film won the award for Best Actor for its lead Kôji Yakusho, who also appears in '13 Assassins', and the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. Its director, three-time Oscar nominee Wim Wenders ('Paris, Texas', 'Wings of Desire'), pays tribute to the Japanese filmmaker Yasujirô Ozu, with a profound, moving, and poetic reflection on how we must find beauty in the everyday world around us.
