Plot
Documentary offering an intimate insight into the life and career of the celebrated Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007), one of the most iconic tenors in history.
Directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard ('Solo: A Star Wars Story', 'The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years'), 'Pavarotti' combines archive footage with up-to-date interviews with colleagues such as famed tenors Plácido Domingo and José Carreras and manager Herbert Breslin as well as those important in the opera singer's personal life, such as his first two wives Adua Veroni and Nicoletta Mantovani, to give audiences an insight into the human being behind the legendary vocal chords.
The documentary follows Pavarotti from his early beginnings as a the son of a baker turned choir singer in Modena to his sell-out performances in opera houses across the world, with glimpses into many of his famous performances such as his turn in La Bohème at La Scala, the Three Tenors concert at the 1990 World Cup featuring 'Nessun dorma' and his final performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. It explores how Pavarotti was among the first who challenged the elitism associated with opera and encouraged the masses to listen to his beloved genre.
'Pavarotti' is written by Mark Monroe and Cassidy Hartmann.
