Patria y vida: The Power of Music

Six Cuban musicians decide to release a song under the name 'Patria y Vida', which protests against the Cuban regime that is supressing the entire country. Soon after, with an independent record label and without the help of any radio, marketing campaigns or playlists, the melodically sad song triumphs on social networks around the world, reaching more than 450 million views on Tik-tok and more than 110 million interactions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under the hashtag #Patriayvida. Thus, the song serves as a battle cry for the revolution of the Cuban population that, tired of its government, takes to the streets around the world.

Such is the impact of the song, that the Cuban government goes so far as to ban it and imprison those citizens who listen to it. One of the rappers of the song, Maykel Osorbo, was imprisoned in Pinar del Río, a maximum security prison since the cry 'Patria y libertad' was the most heard during the demonstrations of July 11, 2022. Those who also suffered the consequences of the song were Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, from the duo Gente de Zona, who received a warning from the FBI that there was a warrant for their arrest. Finally, Youtuel Romero, creator of the song, is in exile, from where he tells everything that happened and continues to happen as a result of his 'Patria y Vida'.
