On the Fringe

'On the Fringe' is a compelling social drama with a thriller pace. It features three characters whose lives will intertwine during a decisive day that could change their future forever. The film provides an insight into the social reality experienced by people in a situation of great economic hardship and how it affects their personal relationships. The Spanish film shows how solidarity, altruism and affection are a great engine to get out of the worst moments.

This is Juan Diego Botto's debut feature film, co-written with Olga Rodríguez. The film was previewed at the Venice Film Festival 2022. In its festival run, it has a Best Film nomination in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival the same year.

The film stars three of Spain's film icons, that have accumulated some of the most prestigious wards. Penélope Cruz ('Parallel Mothers', for which she was nominated to the Academy Awards) plays a woman on the verge of eviction. She is opposite Luis Tosar ('Celda 211', 'Te doy mis ojos') and Adelfa Calvo ('El autor', 'La isla mínima'). The cast also includes the director himself, as well as María Isabel Díaz Lago ('Volver', 'Patria') and the Belgian actor Fabrice Boutique.

After its theatrical release, the film will be available on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform.
