Plot
Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and starring Michael Jayston and Janet Suzman, this historical drama tells the story of the last great emperor of Russia, Tsar Nicholas II. He was the last monarch of the Romanov imperial dynasty. The film tells the glorious era of his reign, his marriage to lady Alexandra Fedorovna and the lives of their children, the Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia and Tsarevich Alexei. The film shows that stage full of ballroom dancing, important holidays and luxury to the tragic fate that befell the family after the outbreak of the Bolshevik Revolution in October 1917. The film explains the reasons why the people challenged the rule, years of corruption, oppression and misery, but also shows the human side of the Russian royal family and what they saw from their point of view.
