New Town Utopia

What would happen if we built Utopia? 'New Town Utopia' is a documentary film about utopian dreams and concrete realities. It's a fun, challenging and even tragic story at times about the new British city of Basildon, located in Essex.

With a narrative guided by the artists, musicians and poets of this new city, the film takes place as a journey through memory, the place itself and the inevitable performance. These characters face their own personal battles, but they must also face austerity and adversity. That makes them people driven by the creative spirit to help their community through art, poetry, music ... and even some pretty angry puppets.

Directed by Christopher Ian Smith, the film features Jim Broadbent as the voice of Lewis Silkin MP.
