Neneh Superstar

Neneh, is a 12-year-old black teenager who loves to dance. She has the dream of one day being a student at the Paris Opera Ballet School. But Neneh's enthusiasm will not be enough to become a Opera Ballet dancer, she has to do extra efforts in order to be accepted by the school director, Marianne Bellage. She likes to follow the traditions and also keeps a secret that binds her to the little ballerina Neneh. Neneh will have to face a lot of problems, she is young woman within diversity and from a modest social class who will struggle to find her place in an artistic environment to reach the social elite.

The film is written and directed by Ramzi Ben Sliman, and stars Oumy Bruni Garrel, in the role of Neneh; Maïwenn in the role of the strict Marianne Bellage; and Steve Tientcheu, in the role of Fred. Sliman brings together an experienced cast, which includes Garrel, this being his third film for the young actress. Before she would have acted together with her mother, the also actress Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi (Les Estivants, 2018); and her father, the actor Louis Garrel (La Croisade, 2021).

Ramzi Ben Sliman moves away from documentary and social staging to get closer to fiction, in this way to be able to represent diversity at all levels of society in a close way. He tells us a beautiful story that is as moving as it is stimulating. With this movie, the director wants to break those social conventions and hierarchies, fighting against exclusion.
