My Sunny Maad

Herra is a Czech student who falls in love with Nazir, another Afghan student. They marry, and she decides to go to Kabul to live with his family, but she cannot foresee the kind of life she will lead when the Taliban take over the country. Herra will soon come up against the situation in which the other women and girls are forced to live there, as is the case of Freshta, a woman who will do anything to escape her violent husband. Although Nazir is liberal, like the patriarch of the house, Herra must submit to the family's religious values and the country's social norms, which are even harsher for women who, like Herra, discover that they have difficulty conceiving. Nazir and Herra decide to adopt Maad, a brilliant child.

'My Sunny Maad' is a portrait of a family in post-2021 Afghanistan. It is directed by Michaela Pavlátová, who was nominated for an Oscar for best animated short film in 1991 for 'Reci, reci, rec...'. The film is based on the novel 'Frista' by Petra Procházková, with Ivan Arsenyev and Yaël Giovanna Lévy adapting the screenplay.
