Plot
Diego has no family to go to. His father died and he has not spoken to his brother in the last ten years. However, it would be so good to him to have somebody due to he has nobody to lean on in these very difficult times: he has been detected a very serious cancer. When he left Europe and came to Brazil, he wanted to be a film director, a dream that is still very alive. There he got married to his wife, who no longer lives, and it looked like his life went wonderful. Diego has difficulties to deal with his sickness. He still wants to live and shoot movies. His best friend and doctor Ricardo tells him that his best shot is to get a bone marrow transplantation or he will die. Before leaving to Seattle, he gets married to Livia, a beautiful woman who has met. Already in the city, while he undergoes the diverse treatments, he meets a Hindu boy who becomes his friend and he tells him amazing stories. When the danger is at the highest point, Diego receives the visit of a very rare man.
'My Hindu Friend' is directed by Hector Babenco ('At Play in the Fields of the Lord', 'Ironweed') and written by him and Guilherme Moraes Quintella ('Pagliacci', Síntonia'). It is starred by Willem Dafoe, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Reynaldo Gianecchini, Selton Mello, Bárbara Paz and Guilherme Weber, among others.

Inspiration
Davis' character is inspired by the director and painter Julian Schnabel. His real life daughter, Stella Schnabel, plays Leslie, Davis' wife in the movie.
