Plot

Simba and Nala have had a daughter: Kiara, who, curious about Mufasa's history, asks Rafiki how he became the king of the savanna. The monkey then tells the little lioness about her beloved grandfather's life while mischievous Timon and Pumba listen attentively. Thus, the narration of this story is constructed through flashbacks, which begin by presenting Mufasa as an orphaned and lost cub in search of a home. Fortunately, the young cub finds Taka, another friendly lion and heir to a royal lineage. The two friends will then embark on a journey that will gradually unite them as they face various problems and a pack of much more violent lions led by a ruthless white lion. However, Taka's future is somewhat dark, as he is destined to become the evil Scar.

Years before the events of the original movie, this is the prequel to the 2019 remake of 'The Lion King' and is directed by Barry Jenkins ('Moonlight'). Aaron Pierre ('Rebel Ridge') voices the young Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. ('The Trial of the Chicago 7') voices Taka. Additionally, the film features songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda ('tick, tick... Boom!') and a score by Dave Metzger ('Tarzan and Jane').
