Mission Mangal

In 2014, Indian was the fourth country to reach Mars and the first one to do so on its first attempt. 'Mission Mangal' ('Mission Mars') is a fictional take on the series of events within the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) that lead to this remarkable feat. When Tara (Vidya Balan, 'The Dirty Picture') makes a mistake as Project Manager, her boss, Rakesh (Akshay Kumar, 'Gabbar is Back'), takes the fall for her and is reassigned to a project that everybody views as largely hopeless: attempting to get an Indian satellite to break into orbit around Mars. Wishing to make up for the mistake that cost Rakesh his job, Tara joins his team and together they attempt to work out how to get the satellite out of Earth's gravitational pull without wasting fuel. As Rakesh and Tara pull together the intelligent and capable team of Ekta (Sonakshi Sinha, 'Son of Sardaar'), Kritika (Taapsee Pannu, 'Pink'), Varsha (Nithya Menon, 'Magic Love') and Neha (Kirti Kulhari, 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'), their determination and dedication make the project seem possible, after all.

'Mission Mangal' is directed by Jagan Shakti ('Dear Zindagi') and is written by R. Balki ('Padman'), Nidhi Singh Dharma ('Redolence') and Riturraj Tripathii ('Ramayana: The Epic').
