Plot
'Mildred Pierce' is the film adaptation of the 1941 novel by James M. Cain with the same name, belonging to the black film genre and directed by Michael Curtiz. Developed in Los Angeles during the thirties, the film introduces us to the life of Mildred Pierce (played by Joan Crawford), a middle class woman who separates from her husband and with her daughters tries to scale socially during the period of the Great Depression, but she will soon discover that going ahead is not easy: her ex-husband confesses that he cheated on her, her daughter Ray dies of pneumonia, and her daughter Veda is ashamed of her mother's waitress job, which not prevents her from asking for money to pay for her high standard of living. Along with Crawford, the cast includes Jack Carson, Ann Blyth, Zachary Scott, Eve Arden and Bruce Bennett.
