This film is a remake from 'Pokémon: The First Movie' from 1998.

Box Office

In its opening weekend in Japan, this film got more than 5 million dollars in the box office, and in total it made 26,6 million dollars

Detective Pikachu

The film 'Detective Pikachu' with Ryan Reynolds presents a whole new world with pokémons, but it is also tied to 'Pokémon. The Fist Movie' because it shows the story behind Mewtwo. The screenwriter Benji Samit explained they did this as a way to not lose completely the connection with anime fans.

Accesible

With the release in theatres in Japan, the film was accesible to people with diverse capacities. Thanks to an app for their phone named UDCast, people with visual disability could access with an audio description and people with hearing disability could access with Japanese subtitles (with an special glasses for it to rent on the cinema).

Nintendo

This is the second time Nintendo has made a computer-animated adaptation of a tv series based on the games the studio made. The first being 'Kirby 3D' in 2009

Rica Matsumoto

Japanese actor and singer Rica Matsumoto has played Ash, the main character of the 'Pokémon the Series', since 1997. She is also the singer of many of the theme songs for the series. Her fifth single, Mezase Pokémon Master, which album includes songs from the first season of 'Pokémon the Series', is the best-selling single ever released by a voice actor, having sold over 1 million copies in Japan.

Posthumous honors

The screenwriter for 'Pokémon. The First Movie' Takeshi Shudo receive posthumously the Life Achievement Award in the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2019.
