The Metamorphosis of Birds

First feature film by the Portuguese filmmaker Catarina Vasconcelos, which competed in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section in 68th San Sebastián International Film Festival, in addition to being seen in Film Festivals from Las Palmas, Luxembourg, Jihlava and Lisbon. Documentary that delves into family ties and stories. The director, when she was 17 years old, accidentally lost her mother. At the same time, her grandmother, Beatriz, died suddenly. This will put Catarina and her father, Jacinto, in an emotional place that is different from what most fathers and daughters know.

The documentary feature film then goes back to the story of her grandparents, Henrique and Beatriz, when they met, fell in love and married, when Beatriz was only 21 years old. Henrique was a naval officer and he was at sea for a good season. Meanwhile, at home, Beatriz took care of her six children. Among them is Jacinto, who, since he was a child, has longed to become a bird.

A series of discoveries of stories about the past, the family and how it influences the wishes and dreams of their offspring. A tribute to the absence of those mothers who cared for their children and whose legacies remain in the minds of their descendants. An intimate and personal look at the family inheritance, turned into a project entitled 'The Metamorphosis of the Birds'.
