May I Speak with the Enemy

In Madrid in 1936, Miguel Gila, a young man who lives happily with his grandparents in a modest attic in a working-class neighborhood, sees his life turned upside down by the onset of the Civil War. Along with his friend Pedro, he is forced to join the conflict, where he will face hardships, battles, executions, and imprisonment, even fighting against the nationalists at the gates of Madrid.

However, it will be his sense of humor and his unique outlook on life that will allow him to survive the tragedies of war, making all sorts of deals with the enemy, such as sharing a cow so both sides could satisfy their hunger after weeks and weeks on the battlefield. This unique way of interpreting the world will lead him to become one of the most beloved and recognized comedians in Spain and Latin America with his comedy routine known to all as 'Is the Enemy?', where he parodies the experiences he had to endure as a young man during this terrible conflict.

Directed by Alexis Morante ('The Universe of Óliver'), this film stars Óscar Lasarte as Miguel Gila. The cast also includes Carlos Cuevas ('Merlí'), Natalia de Moina ('Techo y comida'), and Salva Reina ('Lord, Give Me Patience').
