'Mavis!' is a biographical documentary that chronicles the experiences of the activist civil rights and gospel music legend Mavis Staples and her group 'The Staple Singers'. From 60's hits dedicated to freedom, to the known collaborations that performed with Prince, through her most recent album, the film shows how Mavis has remained true to her roots while keeping her family close and inspired millions soul music lovers. The film shows spectacular live performances and discussions with contemporary artists such as Bob Dylan, Prince, Bonnie Raitt, Levon Helm and Jeff Tweedy, transforming the music of this artist into a special vehicle that invites the public to discover the fight, the successes and the most intimate corners of the Staples trip, an icon who at 75 years is still trying to share with new followers her message of love and equality. Jessica Edwards wrote and directed this film packed with collaborations from the music business.
