Plot
Ramona lives in a town in the northwest of Spain, specifically in Galicia. This is a woman who is not going through a good time, both personally and professionally. His daughter Estrella is his reason for living, the reason he keeps getting up every morning. However, the time has come to fly, both she and the young woman, in search of new challenges, a new spark to enjoy living.
'Matria' is a film written and directed by Álvaro Gago, chosen by Variety as a young Spanish talent to watch. Gago was nominated for a Goya Award in 2019 with his first short film, the same name as the film that he will premiere in 2023, and in the 2021 edition with another short film. In addition, the director has had an incredible and unstoppable journey through European film festivals, being awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival in an occasion.
'Matria', in its feature film version, has been premiered exclusively at the 73rd edition of the Berlinade, specifically in the Panorama section, where it has received very good reviews.
