Plot
Based on the famous novel by the illustrious American writer Jack London, the film is set in Naples in the early twentieth century. After saving Arturo, a young scion of the industrial middle class, from a brutal beating, the sailor Martin Eden (Luca Marinelli) is invited to the boy's family home. There he will meet Elena (Jessica Cressy), Arturo's beautiful sister whom he will instantly fall in love with. The young woman, educated and refined, becomes not only the object of Martin's desire, but also a symbol of that high social status that she aspires to achieve so much. After great efforts, and overcoming the many obstacles and impediments that he has to face because of his humble origins, Martin pursues the dream of becoming a writer. In addition, under the influence of the wise elder Russ Brissenden, Martin will be involved in political circles of socialist current. This will put in a clear conflict his new situation of social commitment with the working classes against the love he feels for Elena and the bourgeois world to which she belongs.
The film, directed by the Italian Pietro Marcello ('Bella e Perduta'), has been shown in numerous international festivals such as Venice, Toronto, Hamburg or New York, among many others.
