'Marry my Dead Body' is a taiwanese supernatural comedy directed by Chen Wei-Hao. It was released locally in February 2023, while Netflix bought its distribution rights for almost the rest of the world, and premiered it on August of the same year. The film tackles the ghost marriage theme, a Chinese tradition where a living person marries a dead one, which some people still practice nowadays.
The lead of 'Marry my Dead Body' is Wu Ming-han (Greg Hsu), a homophobic policeman than one day, during a work investigation, meets Mao Mao (Austin Lin), a young gay man who was about to marry his boyfriend when he was killed in an accident. Mao Mao's grandmother decides that, to respect the tradition, Wu Ming-han has to marry Mao Mao, something that the policeman doesn't want to do by any means.
However, Wy Ming-han's luck starts to turn south, and he can't stop seeing Mao Mao in almost every situation. He is so obsessed that he starts failing at work, messing up the case he was investigating. The only way he has to avoid the marriage and get rid of Mao Mao is to help him solve his case and find who murdered him, thus avenging his death.
'Marry my Dead Body', was globally acclaimed by critics and shows hoy Taiwan is one of the most progressive Asian countries towards LGBT rights and his depiction in society.
