María Solinha

On 'Maria Solinha' a director goes with his company to the little village of Cangas do Morrazo in Galicia to adapt at the actual theater the story of María Solinha, a woman who was burned at a stake by the Inquisition after being accused of witchery practices in the seventeenth century. The protagonist on which the theater play is based was attacked, according to a legend, by a dragon who invaded Redondela village on the XVII century and who kidnapped all the young woman to violate them behind the San Simon island bridge. The final of that animal arrived when the sailors of Redondela rebelled and killed it to avoid the population of the danger of this creature. Now, the times has changed but the legend keep on being current. The dragon that also attacked Maria Solinha on the XVII century has left its animal appearance and now on the XXI century the legend is reproduced with an human protagonist, who also attacks and violates the Maria Solinha of the current times.

According to its director Ignacio Villar, the movie reflects the female energy of this world against the dragons who go out of their caves. With this premise, 'Maria Solinha' tells us about the violence against the women at the patriarcal society. The movie is filmed on Galician language and has a casting formed by Grial Montes, Laura Míguez, Santi Prego or Mabel Rivera, among others.
