Plot
'Manta Ray: The Missing Spirits' (original titled as Kraben Rahu) comes to us from the asian country of Thailand. The director and screenwriter Phuttiphong Aroonpheng wanted to identify in his first feature film a story close to the reality of his country without qualifying it as a protest film.
The protagonist of the film is Nobi (Wanlop Rungkumjad), a fisherman who lives near the coast of Thailand and whose job is to hunt giant rays, for this he collects stones that he finds and collects in the nearest forests.
During the nights, in addition to the roots and branches of a forest, he is accustomed to finding bodies of dead men that he buries himself.
But one of those nights is not a dead body, but the "mute" (Aphisit Hama). This is alive, covered in grime and wounded. Nobi takes him home, takes care of him and gives him the name of Thongchai.
Through some humid and coastal places, the director delves into the relationship of friendship that begins to form between the two protagonists and that will finally bring them a verse reflected in each other more than he could imagine.
This film also mentions the people of the Rohinyás, a population that fled Burma for ethnic cleansing and took refuge in neighboring countries, including Thailand.
