Plot
The film tells the true story of the 22-year-old Rani Lakshmi Bai, the Queen of Jhansi, a young female warrior who fought against the British colonisers when they invaded her homeland of Jhansi after the East India Company expected to annex the state due to there being no male heir. The young queen suffered under the burden of many difficulties in her life, including being married at the age of only 15 after impressing her suitors by slaying a grown tiger, but the patriotic royal became the first woman in India's history to fight against the British in a battle of Independence during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. During the deadly siege, the Queen fights alongside her men in their attempts to destroy the British cannons razing the people and the land. She was one of the leading figures in this movement, but tragically the Queen was killed in battle in an act of self-sacrifice, becoming a martyr of patriotism for her country. The film tells her story of bravery and strength which has inspired, and continues to inspire, generations of people throughout India.
'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' is a Hindi period drama film dually directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi and Kangana Ranaut, the latter of home stars as the titular queen.
