Plot
The documentary 'Maledetto Modigliani' narrates the stormy life of Italian artist Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, who, like many other artists, lived in absolute poverty and did not see his work recognized until he was after his death from tuberculosis in 1920 in Paris, when he was only thirty-five years old.
Modigliani is mainly known for his portraits, although in his last period, he devoted himself mainly to sculpture. The film, directed by Valeria Parisi, who wrote the screenplay with Didi Gnocchi and Arianna Marelli, takes a very innovative approach to his story, narrating it from the point of view of the woman with whom he shared his life, his common-law wife, Jeanne Hebuterne. The artist left behind a long list of works, including 'Portrait of a Polish Woman', 'Head', 'Jacques and Berthe Lipchitz' and 'Nu Couché', which is the second highest-paid work of art at auction, behind only the series of paintings and drawings 'Mujeres de Argel' by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.
The documentary features the testimonies of Chloe Aridjis, Astrid Casali, Dominitilla D'Amico, John Myatt, Klaus Albrecht Schröder and Paolo Virzì. It is an Italian co-production between the companies 3D Produzioni and Nexo Digital, also responsible for its distribution.
