Maborosi

'Maborosi' tells the story of a young women of only 20 years old named Yumiko. At the start of the film she lives a happy life with her husband and son, but suddenly disaster strikes; her husband is hit by a train and she is left a widow. The supposed suicide breaks her heart and destroys her calm life.

Five years later she enters into an arranged marriage with an older man who also already has a child. At the start of the marriage Yumiko is isolated and feels alone in the small fishing village on the Japanese coast. Soon the two children begin to get along well and Yumiko's life seems to have improved, but when she returns to her hometown she learns a new detail about her ex-husband's death, bringing all the pain back once again.
