Plot
Based in real events, 'Lord of the Ants' tells the story of a trial celebrated in Rome at the end of the 60s that scandalized the whole country. The poet and dramaturge Aldo Braibanti, born in 1922, was sentenced to nine years in prison for what was considered a "brainwashing" to one of his students, based on a law introduced during the fascist regime. Braibanti was sued by the father of young Giovanni Sanfrantello, 18 years old, with whom he had a romantic relationship. His parents wanted to forbid him from hanging around artistic and leftist circles, while Braibanti assured the young man had followed him voluntarily and as an adult. During the trial the electrician Piercarlo Toscani testified against him, another young man with whom he had a relationship when he was 19 years old. 'Lord of the Ants' is a judicial drama that narrates how a journalist compromised to reconstruct the truth, facing power and censorship.
Directed by Gianni Amelio, director of films like 'The Stolen Children' and 'The Keys to the House'. He writes the script alongside Edoardo Petti and Federico Fava. The main cast includes Luigi Lo Cascio, Elio Germano, Sara Serraiocco, Leonardo Maltese, Caterina Antonacci, Rita Bosello, Davide Vecchi and Maria Caleffi.
