'Little Women' trivia and fun facts
A different Emma
Along with Gerwig, Sony originally announced that Emma Stone would be part of the remake?s main cast. In August 2018, she was replaced by Emma Watson.
Strange connection
With her role as Jo March, this is the second time that Saoirse Ronan has portray one of Katharine Hepburn's iconic roles after Mary, Queen of Scots (in which she portrayed the titular character in 'Mary Queen of Scots' (2018)).
Nationality
Although they portray heroines of American literature, none of the four leading ladies are American. Emma Watson and Florence Pugh are British, Saoirse Ronan is Irish, and Eliza Scanlen is Australian.
A little family
Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, and Greta Gerwig all previously collaborated on Gerwig's solo feature film directorial debut, 'Lady Bird'.
Making the homework
In an interview with Variety in October 2018, Chalamet admitted, ?I knew Little Women; I hadn?t read it. But I?ve read it since. I understood it to be a literary classic, but it?s crazy, day by day in the rehearsals, I get more imbued in the legend of it all.?
A luxurious cast
The film's cast includes two Oscar winners (Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper) and three Oscar nominees (Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, and Laura Dern).
A change of direction
Greta Gerwig wasn?t always attached to the project. Director Sarah Polley originally wrote the screenplay for the Little Women remake in 2015. In 2016, Gerwig took over screenwriting duties and officially signed on as director two years later.
