Plot
'La memoria escondida' is a documentary that presents the stories of Antonio Ruiz Fernández, Montserrat González Montenegro, Antonio Sánchez Franco and Rosa Araúzo Quintero. These four persons talk to the cameras about their life and experience as members of the LGTBIQ+ collective during the last years of the Franco dictatorship in Spain and the beginning of the transition. A complicated and hard-fought life in which they had to face police discrimination, family exclusion, social marginalization and employment and health discrimination because they were different and did not correspond to what was established at the time, considered the right thing. In addition, these two elderly men and women count how they lived with prostitution and sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS.
José Luis Pecharroman, photography director debuts in the writing with this documentary in which his intention is not to review the history of our country, and especially those years, so exposed on the screen, but focus on the emotional experiences of the protagonists without adding any data, figures, or context. Pecharroman himself has stated that it is positive that these stories are known, so that society not only thinks that it could happen, but that it happened and that the people who suffered it have names and surnames.
