La Chimera

'La Chimera', directed by Alice Rohrwacher, winner of the Silver Spike at the Seminci, opens in cinemas in Spain on April 12, 2024. This captivating and poetic rural adventure, < b>distributed by Elástica Films, made its world debut in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. The cast is led by Josh O'Connor, who plays an archaeologist involved in the illegal trafficking of archaeological artifacts.

Set in the Tuscan countryside, Rohrwacher invites us with 'La Chimera', his fourth feature film, to immerse ourselves in a new fable with magical and poetic touches that transports us to rural Italy in the 80s. The plot follows Arthur, an archaeologist with a special talent for finding objects buried underground. This ability makes him a treasure hunter in the Italian region that is home to the ruins of the Etruscan civilization. However, what Arthur really longs to find is Beniamina, his lost love.

The cast also includes Carol Duarte, Vincenzo Nemolato, Isabella Rossellini, Alba Rohrwacher, Lou Roy-Lecollinet, Giuliano Mantovani, Gian Piero Capretto, Melchiorre Pala and Ramona Fiorini.

'La Chimera' is a collaboration between Italy, France and Switzerland, with companies involved in the production such as Tempesta, Ad Vitam Production, Amka Films Productions, arte, RAI Cinema, SRG SSR Idée Suisse and CNC Aide aux cinémas du monde - Institut Français. The photography by Hélène Louvart is another highlight of the film, capturing the beauty of the Tuscan countryside and the magic of history with a unique sensitivity.

Alice Rohrwacher, known for films such as 'Corpo Celeste' (2011), which won the Camera d'Or at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, 'Wonderland' (2014), which won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, or 'Lazzaro Feliz' (2018) which won the award for best screenplay, presents us with a new work that combines visual beauty with emotional depth. Her ability to capture the essence of Italian rural life and to create endearing characters has been repeatedly recognized at international film festivals. This new project is an exploration of the deep Italy of the 80s, where the beauty of the landscape mixes with Mediterranean picaresque and the search for utopia.
