Kneecap

A biopic about the story of three anarchic rappers from Belfast (Ireland) who managed to become the biggest reference of the civil movement to save the Irish language. In addition to a lot of humor, sex, and drugs, the film features the real members of the band: Mo Chora, Móglaí Bap, and Dj Próvaí, accompanied by Michael Fassbender, who plays a charismatic father turned political martyr.

This film directed by Rich Peppiatt narrates from the first-person perspective the rise to fame of this band formed by two childhood friends who are working-class drug dealers and a music teacher. The first meeting between them takes place in a jail when one of the brothers, Naoise, is arrested and, as he refuses to speak in English, the presence of JJ, the teacher, is needed as an interpreter since it is his side job. It is at that moment when JJ reads Naoise's personal diary and discovers rhymes filled with political discourse, which initiates their peculiar story.

The group becomes a representation for all those young people committed to the Irish language who seek to defend their national cultural heritage. And, thus, unintentionally, the members of the group became the leaders of a social movement.
