Martin Scorsese said that when he read David Grann's book "Killers of the Flower Moon," he knew that he had to make it into a movie. Scorsese spent several hours together with Chief Standing Bear to convince the Osage Nation to help with the filming.
Years of collaboration
Robert De Niro first introduced Martin Scorsese to Leonardo DiCaprio after working with him on 'This Boy's Life' (1993) and being impressed by his talent. Scorsese remembered this years later when casting 'Gangs of New York' (2002) and thus began his long collaboration with DiCaprio.
DiCaprio's improvisations
Robert De Niro was bothered by Leonardo DiCaprio's frequent improvisations; According to Martin Scorsese, "Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes. And we'd say, 'You don't need that dialogue.'"

This film is not the first motion picture about the Osage Murders. Tragedies of the Osage Hills (1926) by James Young Deer was released in 1926, nearly a century ago. Later films such as 'The FBI Story' (1959) likewise depicted the murders.
Age error
William Hale, played by Robert De Niro, was about 45 years old when the Osage murders began. DeNiro is almost 80 years old.
Firts investigation
The investigation into Osage County was the first investigation presented to the newly formed Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). It was led by J. Edgar Hoover.
Veteran partners
This will be the seventh collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio and will also mark the eleventh collaboration between Scorsese and Robert De Niro if the short film The Audition (2015) is taken into account.
