Kesari

A period war film that tells the story of Havildar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar, 'Mission Mangal') and his participation in the Battle of Saragarhi of September 1897 between the 36th Regiment of Sikh soldiers from the British Indian Army, led by Singh himself, and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen hailing from Afghanistan. The Sikh platoon is heavily outnumbered at 21 men who try to defend the province at the north-west frontier from invasion by 10,000 Afghan soldiers in what is widely regarded as one of the most shocking and determined last stands in war history.

'Kesari' looks behind the history of the battle outlined in textbooks and takes audiences into the personal lives of the 21 men, exploring their struggles and successes within their family and the caste system. The film also boasts a soundtrack filled with covers such as B Praak's rendition of Teri Mitti.

Directed by Anurag Singh ('Super Singh', 'Punjab 1984' and 'Jatt & Juliet') and co-written by Girish Kohli and Singh, 'Kesari' is war film based on a striking battle in India's history. Joining the cast are Parineeti Chopra ('Namaste England'), Suvinder Vicky ('5 Weddings'), Vansh Bhardwaj ('Udta Punjab'), Sumeet Basran, Ajit Singh and Sandeep Nahar ('M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story').
