Kayara

The dream of Kayara, a young Inca, is to be part of the group of messengers known as Chasqui and deliver messages throughout the Inca Empire. To achieve this, she will have to confront the traditions, expectations, and gender norms imposed upon her. The Inca messengers, known as Chasquis, were fast, strong, and composed only of men.

This 16-year-old girl is destined to become the first woman to break into the exclusive league of Chasquis. Kayara encounters her first opportunity to compete in the messenger race in front of the Inca emperor and dresses as a man.

When the truth about her identity is revealed and she is about to be punished for it, the young prince Paullu applauds Kayara's actions. She manages to pass all the missions to become a Chasqui and discovers the legends about her island and her people.

This film is directed by Cesar Zelada and Dirk Hampel, written by Brian Cleveland, Jason Cleveland, and Cesar Zelada, and stars Naomi Serrano as Kayara, Nate Begle as Martin, and Charles Gonzales as Paullu. A project that showcases a different perspective by featuring a woman with enough initiative, strength, and determination to achieve her dream, while also connecting us with Peruvian culture and the spirit of Andean women.
